The map is the core of Overland Navigator - it shows all of the new tracks, campsites and interest points all over New Zealand. As you zoom in different parts of the dataset will become visible showing you as much information as possible.

The basics

The map works like other app-based map software you may have used - simply swipe around to move the map, pinch to zoom etc.

Here's a typical map view - it's showing a couple of different routes and markers.

Tapping on any marker will bring up the information about it.

The markers

There are a few types of markers on the map - tracks, campsites and interest points. Tapping any of the markers will bring up details about the item.

Tracks

The start of each track is displayed as a coloured pin on the map. Simply tap on one and the track line will appear along with a quick overview of the track. If you're using Navigator Pro, the lines will already be there to hep you navigate even easier.

To view more information, simply tap the 'more info' button on Android or drag the panel up on iPhone.

Track grading

Tracks are coloured according to the following; as with anything in nature things change depending on the weather and traffic - use the grades as a guide only. Always use your eyes when you're on the track.

Green - simple scenic gravel road

Orange - will generally require a vehicle with good clearance and low range

Red - will generally require all terrains or better and some experience.

Campsites and huts

Campsites are shown as blue pins on the map. Simply tap on one and a screen with all the details we have on the campsite will appear.

Interest points

Navigator includes a bunch of interesting things to see and other useful data. You can tap any of the pints for more information.

Weather cameras

Get a rough idea of what the weather is doing in a location - tap the marker and the picture will pop up.

Car ferry

Sometimes it's quicker to take a boat - tapping the marker will bring up all the details you need.

River flow

Keep an eye on rivers near to certain tracks.

Changing the base map

You can swap between three different base maps by simply tapping the layers button.

Available base maps

Map

The standard base map, offers good detail, speed and readability

Satellite

Get a real world view of what the terrain looks like.

Topographic

A topographic view of New Zealand, useful for finding hidden routes and local features.

Extra data layers

Navigator Pro

This feature is only available in Navigator Pro

Navigator provides extra data layers that make it easier to explore. Simply enable the layer for it to show. It can take a few moments for the data to appear depending on the layer selected.
